Samsung's Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge get so much right. Not only are they two of the most powerful smartphones with arguable the best and fastest cameras, they're also waterproof and have long battery life.
Last year, the ruggedized Galaxy S6 Active made up for the Galaxy S6's lack of waterproofing and weaker-than-expected battery life. Mashable called it the most utilitarian smartphone at the time. And now, it appears Samsung's readying a successor called the Galaxy S7 Active.

Like the S6 Active, the phone looks destined to be an AT&T exclusive. The digital camouflage-adorned S7 Active won't come with the S7's metal-and-glass design. The phone sports a plastic body and more shock-resistant rubber bumper.

Performance-wise, the S7 Active looks to have the same guts as the S7.
Below the screen is what appears to be a home button with a fingerprint sensor (S6 Active didn't have the sensor), flanked by a back and recent apps button. (The buttons are separate and not conjoined this time around.) There's also a programmable "Active" shortcut button below the volume buttons just like on the S6 Active.
Performance-wise, the S7 Active looks to have the same guts as the S7: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM. Storage capacity is unknown at this time, but it'll likely be the same as the S7 and S7 Edge with 32GB. There is also a microSD card for storage expansion. Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Samsung's TouchWiz UI is a given.
It also wouldn't be a stretch to expect the S7 and S7 Edge's excellent 12-megapixel back and 5-megapixel selfie camera to show up on the S7 Active

It's been almost a year since AT&T launched the S6 Active, so we'll likely hear news on the S7 Active really soon. With warmer weather inbound, a rugged phone built to survive the outdoors is just what a lot of people need.
