萬厚良還認為 ，年輕球員應該走出去 ，去留洋：“隻要走出去 ，就能看到差距，我們有許多地方需要學習和進步 。而且出去之後學習英語和當地語言 ，對未來的人生也都有幫助 。”
U23國足4月3日回國 ，在海口進行為期21天的入境隔離，同時封閉集訓備戰東亞杯和杭州亞運會。萬厚良表示球隊的準備很充分 ，在隔離期間也沒有浪費任何時間。
