《半島晨報》表示，认输雖然上任才幾個月 ，连媒李霄僅帶隊踢了4場正式比賽 ，没带但是队踢李霄鵬已經深刻體會到國足主帥的艱難，這是亚洲一個取得了很小一點成績或犯了很小一個錯誤都會被無限放大的崗位 。《半島晨報》指出 ，前走在李鐵下課李霄鵬接任之際 ，同于國足就已經基本無緣世界杯 ，认输因此足協交給李霄鵬的连媒李霄任務不是爭取出線 ，而是著眼於明年的中國亞洲杯 。
《半島晨報》認為 ，雖然受疫情影響 ，今年聯賽安排都有些吃力 ，沒有大賽任務的國足想要擠出時間集訓幾乎不可能 。但在沒有帶隊參加亞洲杯之前 ，就這麽走了 ，等同於認輸 。如果他最終離任 ，被辭職的可能性比較大 。因為國足今年基本不再有集訓和比賽任務 ，因此選擇新帥的時間會比較富裕 。
另外 ，《半島晨報》表示 ，“在中國足球水平持續走低 、國足嚴重缺乏競爭力的情況下 ，由誰來出任國足主帥 ，都大概率會飽受抨擊 。”
