比賽第43分鍾，比划林德洛夫右路傳中 ，曼联C羅背身倚住對方後衛準備停球 ，连续C罗但球從他的次传次身前飛過。隨後曼聯左後衛盧克-肖停住球 ，中离調整幾步後在左路傳中 ，大谱C羅在禁區內不斷跑位準備爭頂 ，无奈但球卻傳得太高 ，比划直接飛到了禁區外右側 。曼联拉什福德拿球後再次傳中 ，這一次球更是傳得太靠近底線 ，被馬競後衛拿到後回傳給門將 。
曼聯連續三次傳中都沒有傳到C羅想要的位置上 ，球員們的傳中腳法受到批評 。而在這次進攻結束後，C羅也顯得很不滿意 ，他先是揮動雙手 ，之後又朝著拉什福德抱怨 。C羅還舉起食指比劃了一個“1”的手勢 ，似乎是在說“能傳1次準的嗎？”最後C羅還攤手聳肩 。
馬競是C羅最喜歡的對手之一，賽前數據統計顯示 ，C羅過去35次和馬競交鋒製造了30個進球（25球5助攻） 。但本場比賽踢滿全場的C羅隻有2次射門0射正 ，3次空中對抗全部失敗 。在批評C羅表現不夠好的同時 ，曼聯隊友們的傳球準確率也的確需要提高 。
