範加斯特在球員時代司職中衛和後腰 ，在效力費耶諾德期間曾擔任球隊隊長 ，並隨隊獲得荷甲冠軍 、荷蘭超級杯冠軍 。他曾為荷蘭國家隊出戰5場 ，攻入2球 。
