A 6.8-magnitude earthquake has struck the north-central region of Myanmar, damaging ancient brick pagodas in the famed city of Bagan.
At least one person was killed in the quake, which hit 25km (15.5miles) west of Chauk at a depth of 84km (52 miles), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
While these deep earthquakes generally cause less surface damage, at least 66 centuries-old stupas in Bagan were damaged, said a spokesman from the ministry of religious and cultural affairs.

The ancient capital is a major tourist site and home to thousands of Buddhist monuments.
