《鏡報》還指出 ，西蒙尼在賽後還沒有和曼聯主帥朗尼克握手 ，而兩隊主帥賽後握手是英超的傳統 。不過西蒙尼賽後直接離場已經成為習慣，此前西蒙尼也曾因沒有和利物浦主帥克洛普在賽後握手受到過質疑 ，當時西蒙尼解釋稱 ：“我不喜歡賽後的握手 ，因為當時雙方頭腦中有著不同的情緒。我知道這是英國的一種傳統 ，但我不同意不喜歡其中可能包括的虛情假意 。”
西蒙尼從2011年開始執教馬競 ，這已經是他第六次率隊殺進歐冠八強。值得一提的是 ，西蒙尼執教的馬競在歐冠淘汰賽中一共6次麵對C羅效力的球隊 ，此前5次西蒙尼都輸給了C羅 ，而本賽季歐冠1/8決賽是西蒙尼首次率隊淘汰了C羅 。
