北京時間11月15日 ，再业諾維奇官方消息 ，官方前維拉主帥迪恩-史密斯成為球隊主教練 ，迪恩雙方簽約兩個半賽季 。闪电值得一提的再业是 ，迪恩-史密斯在2021年11月7日被英超球隊阿斯頓維拉解雇，官方一周之後 ，迪恩他就重返英超 ，闪电成為了諾維奇的再业主帥 。
迪恩-史密斯從2018年10月開始執教阿斯頓維拉 ，官方曾在2018-19賽季帶領球隊從英冠升入了英超 ，迪恩並率隊進入了2019-2020賽季的闪电聯賽杯決賽 ，但最終輸給了曼城 。再业本賽季開賽至今 ，官方他的帶隊成績十分糟糕 ，於是他也在11月7日被球隊解雇 。隨後 ，維拉官宣利物浦名宿傑拉德成為球隊新帥 。
2021-22賽季，英超前11輪戰罷 ，諾維奇取得1勝2平8負的成績 ，暫積5分排名英超倒數第一 。在幫助諾維奇取得賽季首勝後 ，主帥法爾克被球隊解雇 。之後 ，諾維奇進入了選帥階段 ，前切爾西主帥蘭帕德也曾和球隊傳出過緋聞 ，但最終諾維奇選擇了剛從維拉下課不久的迪恩-史密斯。
