According to Apple's release notes, iOS 17.1.2 is an emergency update that patches a few security flaws.
As Bleeping Computerpointed out, these vulnerabilities are two zero-day exploits. (For the uninitiated, "zero day" refers to a vulnerability that was previously unknown to the developer, hence there are "zero days" of awareness and defense against it.)
Unfortunately, these flaws have already been exploited in attacks. "Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited against versions of iOS before iOS 16.7.1," the Cupertino-based tech giant said.
The bugs were discovered in WebKit, a browser engine that is crucial for rendering web content such as CSS and HTML. WebKit, by the way, powers Safari. One exploit allowed attackers to gain access to sensitive information due to an "out of bounds read bug," according to Apple.
The other flaw concerned a "memory corruption" issue that could give hackers opportunities to execute arbitrary code.
iPhone isn't the only iDevice affected; Apple also rolled out fixes to iPadOS and macOS.
You can access the update by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
