由於禁止2000名女球迷入場觀戰伊朗2-0戰勝黎巴嫩的补获世界杯預選賽 ，伊朗足協目前麵臨著處罰 。界杯在2019年，國際足聯就已經就伊朗禁止女球迷觀戰一事做出過警告。而今 ，伊朗足協是一犯再犯。

為什麽意大利有望遞補進入決賽圈 ？意大利媒體表示 ，理論上來說 ，如果伊朗果真被剝奪參賽資格 ，國際足聯會依據FIFA排名來遞補一支球隊頂替伊朗出戰 ，而那支球隊當然就是如今FIFA前10中，唯一沒有晉級決賽圈的意大利隊 。不過在文章開頭 ，意大利媒體就已經說過，這是一個極其微小的可能 。
