UPDATE: Jan. 3, 2018, 1:30 p.m. EST Updated to include Donald Trump's statement on Steve Bannon's comments.
Donald Trump's former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon is making some serious political waves after reportedly calling Donald Trump Jr.'s infamous Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer "treasonous" and "unpatriotic."
In an excerpt from Michael Wolff's book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, obtained by The Guardian, when asked about the meeting Bannon reportedly said, "Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad shit, and I happen to think it’s all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately."
Ouch, Donny Jr. — that's gotta sting.
SEE ALSO:In one sentence Joe Biden gives a brutal assessment of Trump's presidencyBannon, who's returnedto his role as alt-right media company Breitbart News executive chairman since being ousted from the White House, is no stranger to boldly sharing his thoughts and opinions — but even so, seeing a former member of the administration call Trump's son's actions "treasonous" is a pretty big deal.
The quote resonated with many — especially since Bannon doesn't have the best reputation himself — and Twitter users began sharing their reactions to the powerful words online. Some cracked jokes at the expense of both Bannon and Donald Trump Jr., while others were simply imagining how Trump must feel after hearing his old pal flip the switch.

"You never see it, you never know it, because you don’t need to … But that’s the brain trust that they had," Bannon went on, describing the secrecy of the meeting.
And as for Trump's son? Bannon doesn't seem to think he can keep up his innocent act for much longer.
"They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV," he told Wolff, per The Guardian.
Despite Trump having previously denied knowing about his son's meeting, a quote from the book — sourced by NBC National Correspondent Peter Alexander— claims Bannon is confident the president was aware of and even met with the associates.

Shortly after Bannon's comments were reported Trump released a statement explaining, "Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my Presidency. When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind."

Stay tuned to see if Trump attempts to take Bannon down via Twitter as well, because lord knows he hasn't held anything back so far this year.
Wolff's book is set to be released on Jan. 9.
