遲尚斌同誌1949年9月19日生於大連 ，迟尚 1969年入選遼寧足球隊 ，斌同1970年入選中國國家男子足球隊 。古为贡献在1970—1982年期間，事业遲尚斌同誌代表國家隊先後參加了第七、足协志千中国足球作出卓八 、悼念九屆亞運會足球賽 ，迟尚第六 、七屆亞洲杯足球賽 ，第二十二屆奧運會預選賽，第十二屆世界杯預選賽等重大比賽，並擔任了5年國家隊隊長 。1981年 ，遲尚斌同誌獲國家體委頒發的體育運動榮譽獎章 ，並當選第五屆全國人大代表 。
1982年退役後 ，遲尚斌同誌進入北京體育學院攻讀運動生理專業 ，畢業後開始教練生涯 。作為主教練 ，遲尚斌同誌曾率領大連萬達隊兩次獲得甲A聯賽冠軍 ，率隊創造了甲A聯賽55場不敗的紀錄 ，並獲得甲A聯賽最佳教練稱號。作為國家隊助理教練 ，遲尚斌同誌幫助國家男子足球隊在2001年成功獲得世界杯決賽階段資格 ，並隨隊參加了2002年韓日世界杯 。
作為運動員和教練員，遲尚斌同誌把一生獻給了中國足球，為中國足球事業作出了卓越貢獻。
