當地時間上周五，西媒巴薩主席拉波爾塔在接受RAC1采訪時表示 ，质疑自己曾希望梅西能夠免費為紅藍軍團踢球 ，梅西没免但他知道不能提出這樣的为何要求 ，而這也引來了西媒的费留關注。
拉波爾塔當時談道 ：“我的队本低报確希望梅西在最後一刻告訴我 ，他會為球隊免費踢球。愿接這個提案當然會說服我，受更我也知道西甲聯盟會接受，西媒但我們不能提出這樣的质疑要求 。我有這樣的梅西没免想法 ，是为何因為我了解梅西。當初我看著他進入一線隊 ，费留我幫助過他的队本低报家庭……他知道 ，如果我們度過經濟危機 ，愿接就會匹配他的要價 。”
而《每日體育報》則撰文發問：“為什麽梅西沒有為巴薩免費踢球 ？”報道中指出，巴薩向梅西送上了一份降薪50%的報價 ，而阿根廷人選擇了立刻接受 。雖然梅西本人沒有直接參加談判 ，而是由自己的父親兼經紀人出席，但是梅西的態度卻是非常清晰，即便是巴薩給出的降薪幅度更大，梅西也願意接受 ，這也印證了他所說的‘我已經做了全部’的話 。
不過 ，巴薩的確如拉波爾塔所說的 ，沒有要求梅西進一步降薪 ，甚至是免費為球隊踢球。但《每日體育報》同時指出，在談判的最後階段，雙方間仍然存在著緊張的情緒 。而最終 ，巴薩由於財政的原因撤回了報價 ，而梅西則加盟了巴黎。
