克羅斯表示自己退出國家隊的征召決定是跟弗裏克一起做出的，“在歐洲杯之後 ，克罗考虑我和弗裏克之間進行了一次長時間的斯希交談，我在對話中告訴他我的望弗真實想法 、計劃和願望 ，最終的結果大家也知道了。”在那次談話之後 ，克羅斯正式宣布退出國家隊 。
對於兩人之間的關係 ，克羅斯坦言兩人關係非同一般，“弗裏克當然可以隨時給我打電話，我們之間的話題並不隻限於足球 ，我們的關係好到可以聊任何事情 ，比如可以和弗裏克聊減肥的事 。”
此一時彼一時，如果國家隊真的需要他呢 ？克羅斯笑言 ，“我希望弗裏克能夠帶領球隊取得成功 ，以至於他壓根就不需要考慮打電話給我，來討論足球方麵的事情 。”
