在視頻連線中，梅西梅西笑著與主持人進行對話 ，早知祝贺他的未获行為舉止顯得非常得體 。《世界體育報》指出 ，仍想梅西的出席舉動顯示出了他出色的風度，而這正是颁奖C羅所不具備的 。近年來 ，私下隻要C羅沒有得到最高獎項 ，葡萄牙人就會拒絕出席頒獎典禮 。在去年11月底的金球獎頒獎典禮中，C羅就沒有到現場 ，他不願意親眼見證梅西捧起個人第7個金球獎杯 。
《世界體育報》還指出 ，梅西通過個人方式 ，私下裏已經聯係到了萊萬 ，並祝賀波蘭人衛冕世界足球先生 。在梅西贏得個人第7個金球獎後 ，他就曾在頒獎典禮上呼籲《法國足球》為萊萬補發2020年的金球獎杯 。
不過需要指出的是 ，梅西雖然祝賀了萊萬 ，但卻在投票中沒有選擇波蘭人 。身為阿根廷隊長的梅西 ，在投票中擁有三張分值不同的選票 。這三張選票 ，被梅西依次投給了內馬爾 、姆巴佩和本澤馬，梅西並沒有為萊萬投票 。而萊萬的三張選票 ，則依次投給了若日尼奧 、梅西和C羅 ，波蘭人把第二票投給了阿根廷隊長。
