There's Uber for hailing rides. There's Uber Eats for food delivery. And now, the high-tech transportation company is experimenting with Uber Tasks, a new service that will allow you to find drivers who are willing to run errands for you, according to Bloomberg.
Uber Tasks would be biting into a market share now dominated by TaskRabbit and Angi, apps that connect users with freelancers willing to tackle a chore or two.
Which jobs can you use 'Uber Tasks' for?
During the initial testing phase, users can hire gig-economy workers to do the following (though this list is far from exhaustive):
Furniture assembly
In-home laundry
Lawn mowing
Snow removal
Packing or unpacking
Holiday decorating
Garden maintenance and Yard cleanup
Uber said that drivers and couriers will have the opportunity to see the estimated earnings via the app.
“This small pilot is the newest way for drivers and couriers to put their skills to work and earn on their own schedule,” an Uber spokesperson told Bloomberg. “We’re always thinking about how to bring people more ways to earn with Uber.”
In the coming weeks, Uber plans to launch Uber Tasks in two locations: Fort Myers, Florida and Edmonton, Alberta.
