受國際疫情影響 ，中国杯經與國際足球聯合會 、国际中國足球協會等認真研究 ，足球“中國杯”國際足球錦標賽賽事組委會決定暫停舉辦2021年“中國杯”國際足球錦標賽 ，锦标待疫情好轉且具備舉辦條件後再恢複辦賽 。赛连這也是续第“中國杯”國際足球錦標賽在2020年因疫情影響暫停舉辦後 ，連續第二年暫停舉辦 。年暂
“中國杯”國際足球錦標賽是停举國際足聯批準的國際足球A級賽，也是中国杯落戶中國的最高規格足球賽之一 ，是国际國內唯一以“中國”命名的足球賽事 。自2017年落戶廣西以來 ，足球賽事綜合效益實現逐年遞增 ，锦标根據專業第三方公司測算 ，赛连2017-2019年賽事綜合效益依次為2.29億元 、续第3.62億元、年暂3.98億元 ，實現了74%的總體增長率和32%的年均增長率 。
該項賽事在促進廣西對外交流合作方麵成效尤為明顯 。據悉 ，2018年“中國杯”期間 ，烏拉圭首次參賽就與廣西建立了合作關係 ，並與桂林達成國際足球小鎮項目建設合作意向 。2019年“中國杯”期間 ，簽署了《廣西壯族自治區體育局與烏拉圭東岸共和國體育國務秘書處關於推進足球合作的框架協議》 ，在足球人才培訓培養 、開展青訓合作、推進足球小鎮建設等方麵達成了多項合作共識 。
