2021年金球獎評選落下帷幕，梅西最終梅西力壓萊萬獲得了個人第7座金球獎獎杯 。寄语金球奖年在獲獎感言中，莱万梅西也對萊萬大加讚賞。上座属于阿根廷人說道 ：“我想表達一下我對萊萬的梅西看法 ，和你在一起競爭是寄语金球奖年莫大的榮耀 ，每個人都知道且同意，莱万去年的上座属于金球獎應該屬於你，你是梅西2020年的贏家。我認為《法國足球》應該頒給你一座金球獎 ，寄语金球奖年因為這是莱万你應得的。”
