Road safety is a big issue in India. And one city is going all out to make it better.
Kolkata, the nerve-center of eastern India, is setting up CCTV cameras every 200-300 meters on its most important roads, the Times of Indiareported.

The police have reportedly placed tenders for 50 new drones and 500 new CCTV cameras. And some speed guns and high-tech cameras that can capture number plates in the dark are also being ordered.
Now, that's what you call going hammer and tongs on crime.
Kolkata is India's third-most populous city and is one of the four big metros with close to 15 million people crisscrossing its roads everyday. As a result, accidents and crimes are not uncommon.
Last year an Audi vehicle had run down an Indian Air Force official on Red Road, one of the city's main stretches where the annual Republic Day parade is held. And some years prior to that, there was the high-profile Park Street rape case.
The city authorities now want to put in place a strong system where such incidents are tracked.
