Besides stopping the spread of fake news, a dislike button is probably the feature Facebook users ask for more than anything.
And despite years of rumors, we've never gotten one. But now, we might finally get a dislike feature. Caveat: It's only on Facebook Messenger.
According to TechCrunch, Facebook is testing a feature that would let users post reactions to private messages—similar to the way users can hover over the like button to choose a reaction on any public Facebook post.
Facebook Reactions include the "love," "haha," "wow," "sad" and "angry" options. The version TechCrunch spotted in Messenger includes those, and a thumbs up and thumbs down, or dislike.
Facebook told TechCrunch that the thumbs down was meant as more of a "no" than a dislike, since Messenger is more often used for coordinating plans and answering other questions with a quick yes or no.
"We’re always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message," Facebook said in a statement to TechCrunch. Facebook didn't immediately respond to request for comment from Mashable.
Get ready to troll your friends by disliking all their messages!
