肯尼亞足協並沒有公布卡朋戈的后续后身具體死因 ，隻表示在等待國際足聯的医务全麵官方報告 。記者薩迪克-亞當斯則在社交媒體上指出 ，卡朋戈的死因與騷亂無關，他是在賽後走向更衣室時突然心髒驟停倒地的 。在接受緊急治療後 ，卡朋戈被送往醫院，但最終在醫院中醫治無效去世 。但即便卡朋戈的去世與球迷騷亂無關 ，但這次騷亂仍然必定導致尼日利亞足協遭到國際足聯重罰 。
卡朋戈此役的角色 ，是FIFA指定醫務官員 ，他負責在賽後為球員們進行藥檢。肯尼亞足協指出，卡朋戈在該國足球圈內備受尊重 。在2012年 ，卡朋戈曾以隊醫身份隨肯尼亞隊參加非洲杯 ，並見證了尼日利亞奪冠的奇跡時刻 。對於卡朋戈的去世 ，肯尼亞足協向其家人致以慰問和悼念 。
