歐足聯上周在其執行委員會會議上討論了歐冠外卡計劃 ，版欧並將於5月10日在維也納舉行的英超歐足聯大會上進行投票 ，預計該計劃屆時將獲得批準 。多队這意味著從2024年起 ，反对歐冠聯賽將預留兩個席位 ，欧冠供那些未能通過國內聯賽晉級但有著豐富歐戰傳統的制度球隊 。
一名英超球隊高管指出 ，精简這意味著歐冠將引入了“兩級係統”，版欧這隻是英超在為歐洲豪門服務 。這幾乎就像是精簡版歐洲超級聯賽 ，讓人擔心的是最開始可能隻有2支持外卡參賽的球隊 ，但以後會變成4個，8個......最後歐冠聯賽將變成越來越封閉的比賽 。
按照目前的外卡製度，英超BIG6未來如果包攬前六名 ，他們很可能獲得6個歐冠的參賽席位 ，隻要獲得第五 、第六名的球隊比意甲、德甲 、西甲等非歐冠資格球隊係數高就可以獲得歐冠席位。另外如果BIG6無緣前4 ，足總杯的冠軍也將有可能獲得歐冠席位 ，按歐冠外卡製度目前足總杯的4強也隻有水晶宮將錯過歐冠聯賽。
