但哈蘭德的這次拒絕 ，也並非永久性 。如果皇馬最終放棄引進哈蘭德的話 ，挪威人願意與曼城重啟談判 。說得直白點 ，曼城隻是哈蘭德的備胎 。隻有在確定無緣皇馬的情況下 ，哈蘭德才會選擇為瓜迪奧拉效力 。
至於巴薩 ，事實上則已經放棄了引進哈蘭德的打算 。據西班牙名記哈維-米蓋爾透露 ，巴薩已經明確告知哈蘭德團隊 ，不會為他支付一億歐元的轉會傭金 。經紀人拉伊奧拉和哈蘭德的父親 ，都索要5000萬歐元傭金 。這意味著除了7500萬歐元轉會費和過億歐元薪資支出之外 ，巴薩還得再掏一億歐元傭金 。在巴薩高層看來 ，這一億歐元傭金實在太離譜，紅藍軍團不會參與到這種盲目競價中 。
