在首回合時，没批马竞们防麵對西蒙尼擺出的评过“550”全防守陣型 ，德布勞內打進全場唯一進球助曼城以1比0在兩回合比賽中搶得先機。守好瓜帥談到馬競的瓜帅防守時表示 ：“無論史前時代 、現在還是西蒙十萬年後 ，想要在麵對這樣的没批马竞们防陣型時發起進攻都是困難的 。”
瓜迪奧拉對此說道 ：“毫無疑問 ，评过我並沒有批評馬競 。守好我的意思是 ，進攻一支防守很好的球隊是很困難的。我對馬競沒有作任何批評 ，我在新聞發布會上說了 ，這是一場完全不同的比賽 。”
而在此前 ，西蒙尼曾炮轟瓜帥偽君子 ：“我對於別人是誇我還是貶我沒什麽看法要發表的。有時候那些伶牙俐齒的人很聰明 ，他們有辦法表麵上誇你，實際上卻是在貶低你 。但我們也不是傻子 ，可能我們隻是沒那麽伶牙俐齒罷了 。”
